Achievements and Awards

In August 2018, a goal by Serdal Celebi was voted “Goal of the Month” by the ARD sports programme Sportschau. He celebrated this success with his teammates during FC St. Pauli’s own “Keep Your Mind Wide Open” Masters tournament.

In 2019, Jonathan Tönsing became the top scorer of the German Blind Football Bundesliga with 17 goals. He was also named the league’s Player of the Season. In recognition of these achievements, he received FC St. Pauli’s Silver Merit Award at the club’s General Assembly.

At the age of 16, Thoya Küster was named Hamburg’s Young Athlete of the Year in 2022. By then, she was already a European champion, had set scoring records at several tournaments, and had won numerous titles with her team.

At the 2022 General Assembly, FC St. Pauli honoured its blind football department twice: the female players for winning the European Championship, and the team for securing its third Blind Football Bundesliga title.

After winning their fourth Bundesliga title in 2024, FC St. Pauli’s blind football team celebrated with the fans at the Millerntor Stadium ahead of a Bundesliga match against RB Leipzig.

In 2018, FC St. Pauli lost the German Blind Football Bundesliga championship final. Nevertheless, the match against MTV Stuttgart still became part of the team’s success story: Serdal Celebi’s spectacular goal to make it 2–1 (see video) was not enough to turn the game around, but it was voted “Goal of the Month” by the ARD sports programme Sportschau. It was the first award of its kind ever presented to a blind football player and marked a major milestone for the sport in Germany.
